Randy Schekman's research is focused on the process of polypeptide translocation from the cytosol into the endoplasmic reticulum, and vesicular transport and membrane fusion among organelles of the secretory pathway.
Among his honors are the Eli Lilly Award in microbiology, the Lewis S. Rosenstiel Award in basic biomedical science, the Gairdner International Award, the Amgen Award from the Protein Society, the 2002 Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research, and the 2002 Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize.
